On June 16, 2016, EcoAustria and the Foster Europe Foundation hosted a joint conference entitled "The fiscal dimension of a humanitarian crisis: the financial relationships between the federal government, federal states and municipalities and migration" at the Concordia Press Club in Vienna.
The aim of the conference was to analyze the fiscal impact of a humanitarian crisis and its effects on the financial relations between the federal government, the provinces and the municipalities. Experts presented and discussed the different practices and experiences of provinces and municipalities in the accommodation, care and integration of migrants in Austria. In particular, the focus was on the question of costs and possible benefits, as well as their distribution among the different levels of the Austrian federal system.
