The "Ökosoziale Forum" in Vienna hosted a discussion event on April 25, 2016 with the topic "Old - poor - female. Women's pension poverty trap?".
In old age, women in Austria are more affected by poverty than men. The income differences between men and women in retirement are even greater than the income differences among the working population. How does the pension account affect women's retirement provision? Who benefits from the current lower retirement age for women? Who is disadvantaged by this regulation? These and other questions were discussed:
Elisabeth Köstinger, President of the Ecosocial Forum Europe
Christine Mayrhuber, Austrian Institute of Economic Research
Ulrich Schuh, Research Director of EcoAustria
Andreas Wörgötter, Head of Division, Economics Department, OECD
