At the employment summit in St. Pölten on June 17, 2016, the current labour market situation was analyzed and a two-million-euro package was put together to get 300 people into employment in the near future. Deputy Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Sonja Zwazl, President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce, and Karl Fakler, Managing Director of the AMS Lower Austria, provided information on this.

At the summit, the current situation was analyzed together with EcoAustria Research Director Ulrich Schuh and other external experts.

The aim is to keep people in employment or prevent unemployment and to keep periods of unemployment as short as possible. A major problem on the labour market is the large influx of workers from abroad, which already existed before the wave of refugees and will continue, says Ulrich Schuh. He sees the main challenges as strengthening economic growth in general, improving business sentiment and taking targeted measures to combat the continuing rise in unemployment, whereby labor market policy is also required.
