EcoAustria auf der European Public Choice Society Conference 2019

The annual conference of the European Public Choice Society will take place this year from April 1 to 4, 2019 in Jerusalem. EcoAustria Director Tobias Thomas and co-authors will present new research findings on the influence of the media.

Using detailed data, the analysis shows that the intensity of media coverage on immigration has a significant influence on the population's concerns about migration. The results remain robust, even if the reporting has nothing to do with current developments on the ground. There is a particularly strong increase in concerns among older people, women and those not in employment.

The study was recently published in the renowned Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. The European Public Choice Society is one of the most important scientific associations in the field of New Political Economy worldwide. This year's annual conference will take place at the Hebrew University Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.
