How the graph works

The ECI visualization tool enables interactive display of the EcoAustria Competitiveness Index (ECI). Users can adjust the weighting of the individual indicators. In addition, any number of EU countries (plus Norway), as well as the economic areas of the EU-27 or the Eurozone, can be compared from 2017 onward. When hovering over the data points in the graph, the index value and the ranking of the respective country for the selected quarter are shown. It is also possible to narrow the time period or reset the graph to its default settings. The shading represents the 10th and 90th percentiles for each quarter, providing an overview of how widely the values vary within the selected time frame.

Interpretation of the ECI

The EcoAustria Competitiveness Index (ECI) is an index that measures the changes in a country's competitiveness based on gross fixed capital formation, net exports, and labor productivity. It captures how competitiveness evolves over time by tracking the direct economic effects of changes in competitiveness on a quarterly basis. With this approach, the ECI is designed to complement existing indices, such as those published by the World Economic Forum or the World Bank.
