Monika Köppl-Turyna becomes new director of EcoAustria

Monika Köppl-Turyna, Ph.D., will be the new Director of the EcoAustria Institute for Economic Research from November 1, 2020. This was announced today by the President of the Institute, Dr. Karl Sevelda, following the Extraordinary General Assembly of EcoAustria: "I am delighted that with Ms. Köppl-Turyna we have been able to gain a very competent and recognized economic researcher for the management of EcoAustria."

The 35-year-old economist received her doctorate from the University of Vienna in 2011 and was an assistant professor at the Lisbon University Institute from 2011 to 2015. She then worked as a Senior Economist at Agenda Austria. Since 2015, she has also been a university lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and a fellow of the Global Labor Organization. She has also been a board member of the European Public Choice Society since 2017. Köppl-Turyna completed her habilitation at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in summer 2020. She is ranked 12th among the most influential economists in Austria in the current Presse/FAZ/NZZ ranking of economists. Her research focuses on public finance, distribution issues, tax competition and questions of political economy.

EcoAustria has been asserting itself as an independent economic research institute in the Austrian scientific landscape since 2012. Using high-quality, scientific methods, EcoAustria examines issues relevant to economic policy and contributes to the current economic policy debate in Austria and abroad in a comprehensible form.
