Research Paper 3: The development of the tax burden on income

EcoAustria has analyzed the development of the tax burden on (wage) income for various income levels. In 2015, this will reach an all-time high. The annual net income of people with an income at the maximum contribution base could be more than EUR 15,000 or almost 40% higher in 2015 if the tax burden applicable in 1975 is taken into account.

Even for those earning a median income, the additional tax burden amounts to around EUR 4,300 per year or 22% of current net income. This unfavorable development will be somewhat mitigated by the 2016 tax reform.
