Mag. Dr. Wolfgang Schwarzbauer is Head of the Research Division for Regional Economic Policy and International Economics at EcoAustria. His research focuses on issues in international economics, regional economics, as well as technology and competition policy.
Schwarzbauer studied economics and history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in economics in 2011. From 2003 to 2005, he completed the postgraduate program at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). From 2005 to 2013, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Economics and Finance at the IHS, which he headed from 2011 to 2013. He then served as Senior Manager of the Research Unit at Oesterreichische Kontrollbank AG until autumn 2017. In addition to his professional roles, Schwarzbauer teaches at several Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences.
Research stays took Schwarzbauer abroad, including to the University of Maryland (USA) in 2009, where he focused on modeling the macroeconomic effects of monetary policy, economic forecasting, and the statistical modeling of economic processes. During this time, he was already responsible for numerous national and international research projects.
